Simon & Lena

My third double wedding of 23/24! Simon and Lena were married in April of this year in stunning co-ordinated corsets made from bubblegum pink nappa leather.

Simon had shopped for his backing fabric for his waistcoat in London, and he came back with a gorgeous buttery crepe backed satin silk fabric with shocking pink asymetrical stripes! Argh!

Stripes are very difficult for corsetry because of the converging waist situation, but in Simon’s particular case the difficulty was enhanced because he is completely asymettrical! His asymettry is caused by having one leg shorter than the other - or one leg longer than the other! Either way, there’s nothing quite like a corset to show up and in fact amplify bodily asymmetry.

Asymettry shows up in a corset in a number of wayss and can be any or all of the below and more

  • The busk fastner leans to one side

  • The lacing leans to one side

  • The top or bottom lines appear to veer up or down

  • There may be a more enhanced ‘nip’ at the waist on one side

In Simons case, the busk leaned to one side, and while one armhole fitted perfectly, the other gaped and sat in a different position. Each side of his waistcoat had to be patterned separately so as to give the illusion of symetry - but I also had to work with the stripes to create a seamless illusion of perfection. Luckily Simon had provided me with 2 metres of the stripey silk fabric, and it was ALL used up by the end.

Lena the bride, had a cute little corset cincher made with a matching neck corset which she embellished herself. The corset she is wearing is a custom Sylphe corset which on her tiny frame, looked like a full underbust. She teamed it with a beautiful gown.

All in all, this was a lovely commission to work on for this beautiful couple.
