The Brides
I had a lot of double weddings last year where both partners had corsets from me - it was a lot of fun!
Audrey and Emma were the third of those couples. They came to me last summer with their idea for complementary wedding gowns for their Spring wedding this year, and so we started working on their outfits at the end of last year. Their visiits to my studio were always full of joy and raucous laughter.
The brides wanted to have complementary ensembles made up of a different colour of corset each and a skirt of their own design made in matching silk. Audrey chose ‘bluebell’ dupion silk for her corset, Emma chose “azure” dupion silk for her corset, then they both had everything else made in a lovely shade of silver dupion..
Their custom corsets were made to their own measurements, with two mock-ups and three fittings each for a perfect fit. I always do the final fitting in the actual corset before finishing it - this is done with unfinished front seams so that we can adjust the bust fit - this is useful especially when we have a fuller bust to contain, or a lighter bust that needs a bit of extra help. It also is a guarantee that there will be no ‘wardrobe malfucntions’ on the day!
Each corset was made as a single layer on white coutil for comfort and lightness and I made matching silk bags for breathable storage. The bags were accented with strips of coloured dupion reflecting the respective corsets.
For their skirts, each bride chose a different design; Audrey had a full circle skirt with a dipped back, and Emma had a half short, half long skirt with a princess train. Both were made in silver dupion with matching silk habotai lining.
The skirts and corsets were then complemented by a sweeping silver cape in habotai silk, while Audrey chose to have a twist wrap in case of an evening chill at their outdoor reception.
Audrey chose to have french couture lace appliquéd around her corset as a vine. Emma preferred a less fussy design but agreed to have a tiny bit of Audrey’s lace attached to the collar of her cape which was also trimmed in blue azure dupion to match her corset.
Their wedding took place this spring in Australia and they reported back that they had a great time and their gorgeous corsets were comfortable to wear all day
Audrey and Emma were a joy and a delight to work with and I wish them all the happiness in the world for their lives together. They chose Custom Corsets from my Enchanting Essentials range of Corsetry. These corsets were customised to A & E’s personal measurements and we did two fittings each to perfect the fit.
