Bespoke, Custom & Ready-to-Wear Corsets Explained

For both first-time corset wearers and experienced lacers, the world of corsetry can feel overwhelming. Understanding the different types of corsets available is an important part of finding the right fit, level of customisation, and investment for your needs.

At JB Corsets, we offer three levels of corsetry service:

• Bespoke Corsetry — a fully personalised luxury corset service, handcrafted entirely to your measurements, vision, and silhouette requirements.

• Custom Corsetry — a more accessible alternative to bespoke corsetry, offering extensive personalisation while working from existing corset patterns and foundations.

• Ready-to-Wear Corsetry — handcrafted corsets made to a standard size chart, designed as an affordable introduction to quality steel-boned corsetry with minimal risk or commitment.

Each option offers a different level of fit, customisation, and investment. Below, I’ve explained each corsetry service in detail to help you choose the right corset for your style, goals, and experience level.

Custom Corsets

Custom corsets are made from existing corset patterns in various styles, and made to measure by hand to your personal measurements - in other words, the existing patter of a particular style, is adjusted to the personal measurements of the client.

You can choose from a range of fabrics, a large selection of colour and pattern, which metal you would like for your busk and eyelets, and even the type of fastner you prefer at the front of your corset.

You can also choose whether or not to have a mock-up fitting and these are often offered to customers free of charge from my large stock of standard size toiles in each pattern.

To order a custom corset, simply choose a style from the range, and ‘add to cart’. This will immediately bring up a form which you can complete with your measurements and other details.

We will then email you to check everything.

Bespoke Corsets

Bespoke corsets are individually created from scratch to your unique design, using a new pattern drafted precisely to your personal measurements. This ensures that every corset is entirely one of a kind — a deeply personal piece.

To start the bespoke corsetry process, all you need to do is get in touch with me with as much information as you can about your dream corset vision.

You can either email me with reference images, or complete the contact form for a quick ballpark quote.

If you think the quote is acceptable, we will talk some more - perhaps over zoom, and the process of planning with shapes, fabrics, trims will begin.

Ready to Ship Corsets

Ready to ship corsets are already made in various standard sizes and are ready to ship. Quite often they are samples made to test design lines, materials or new techniques.

These corsets are all made using a standard size chart and have a very wide range of fit - however, sometimes these corsets are more suited to particular figure types and this is always noted in the description.

Sample corsets are a great way to add to your collection for less, or to introduce yourself a new maker while ‘testing’ their work.
